Ten members and friends of BPS kicked off this years Mitzvah Day project yesterday, with a 'Knit & Natter' afternoon. Our host Rosie provided delicious cakes and tea. The Luton & Dunstable NHS Trust neonatal unit had requested premature baby hats in 'traffic light' colours, and also tiny knitted sleeves about 6 inches long, [any colour] with a gap in the seam for canulas for the baby's arms. Nurse Debbie explained this during the afternoon.

We couldn't believe it had been a year since we had last met up as a group. All knitters or crocheter's are urged to help us over the next few weeks to achieve our goal. Please let Hilary Fox have your finished hats or sleeves before the 2nd week of November, and remember if possible the hats should be in red, orange or green. This is to help staff identify the most poorly babies at a glance. Other colours will be welcomed by Bedford Hospital who are not yet using the colour coding, and parents taking their babies home who have little in the way of tiny clothing. Patterns are available on the internet, or we can e-mail you some on request.
